"That
delectable singer Salena Jones, whose speedy and welcome return to the Music Room after
her January season was applauded in the last issue of Boz, more than justified our
expectations. Clearly at ease with her current quartet she thrilled the opening night
audience with two splendid paced sets which sparkled with invention and vocal skills.
Sprinkled among the offerings were a number of the exquisite
Brazilian style compositions from her album "Salena sings Jobim with the Jobims"
included "Dindi", "Agua de Beber", "Once I Loved" and
Micheal Franks's lovely ballad "Antonio's Song", but the real tour de force of
her opening set came with a superb rendering of Ellington's "In My Solitude",
taken at measured pace and invested with a majesty which few singers could match. |
