Welcome to the Official Website of Salena
Jones . . .
In May, Salena gave another wonderful sold-out performance in her final show at London's Pizza On The Park, one of London`s finest music rooms for almost thirty years, before it permanently closed for re-development. However, a new venue is being developed in Chelsea - named The Pheasantry, a spectacular Georgian listed building in the King`s Road. Salena will be appearing there on Friday and Saturday, September 2nd and 3rd (telephone 0845 6027 017; www.pizzaexpresslive.com).
Salena generates such a sense of intimacy in her style and presence. It is a high-wire act, without props, artifice or arena-style amplification; Salena speaks directly to the audience and they are entranced and just keep coming back for more.
Salena has also been invited to perform at the London Jazz Festival in November (Friday 19th), when she will appear at The Yamaha Jazz Room, at The Bull`s Head which, currently at fifty-one years, is actually London`s longest running jazz venue (www.thebullshead.com). All these London appearances feature accompaniment by Geoff Eales and his musicians.
In June, Salena recorded in Tokyo, with an album release scheduled in Asia for November. She will return in August for festival and club appearances in Mururan and Nagoya; and will visit Japan yet again for most of December for promotional and concert visits.
At home in England, Salena's great version of 'Am I The Same Girl', arranged by Keith Mansfield, is on the new Soul Cellar album recently released by Jazz fm, and she is in good company with Aretha Franklin, Ben E King and Little Richard. You can hear this classic track on this website under Videos.
During 2009, Salena made three concert and festival visits to Japan, and headlined the 'Diva's In The Park' July festival in Thailand.
In October, Salena appeared at London's Ronnie Scott's, where she holds the record for her seven consecutive weeks' run at this famous club. The full performance review by Frank Griffith, Director of Performance Arts at Brunel University, can be seen at The London Jazz website: www.londonjazz.blogspot.com
On YouTube there is a charming Japanese production of Salena's biography - from her Newport News origins as Joan Shaw, to New York, emigration to Europe and England, and brief highlights of her outstanding career: www.youtube.com
Salena has recently celebrated 50 years as a recording artist with her album 'Love & Inspiration', issued throughout Asia by JVC Victor. The album is a swinging mix of originals, contemporary songs and standards with arrangements and production by her husband, Keith Mansfield.
